If it has to be patched, and it can't really be hidden, it might as well be good looking. Rather than just make oval or square patches, I'm taking design cues from other parts on the horn. I'm going to make patches for both sides to re-enforce the damaged areas.

It's only cracked on one side, but the other side also shows signs of fatigue and would probably fail if no corrections are made. Once it was washed and pickled, I could shine a flashlight through the hole. I didn't even notice the crack until I was cleaning it out to give it an initial test play and it blew a soap bubble in the sink. The Lacquer is original and about 85, but the neck and the inside of the bell are nearly worn to bare brass. It has a warm centered tone, but can be pushed hard with a metal mouthpiece. This sax neck played with the crack in it, because the sax was leaky already and there was crud filling the crack. Buescher still made great 400s through the sixties, this one was made appx. It is also worth noting that this sax is 81 years old according to the serial number.
